In the news:
New York Times, March 18, 2010 -- An Arts Crawl, All in a Browser:
"Studio Visit, officially opened by P.S. 1 on Feb. 1, combines the museum’s tradition of presenting work by emerging artists with a reference tool that puts information on hundreds of artists at your fingertips.
The site’s studio tour includes — along with images and video of the artists’ works — an image of each artist’s studio building, a brief statement by the artist, images of the studio’s interior and a satellite map showing the location. For now, the site is limited to artists living and working in the New York metropolitan area. In its first month, more than 750 people have signed up, mostly young and emerging artists living and working in Dumbo and other Brooklyn neighborhoods."
New York Times, January 22, 2010 -- Inside Art: Metropolitan Museum Finds a Bald Man:
At the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City, Queens, everyone can be a participant, although not always on its gallery walls. As the institution gears up for “Greater New York,” its jumbo survey show that opens in May, it is in the process of starting “Studio Visit,” a special section on its Web site — ps1.org — where emerging artists in the New York region can upload video or still images of their studios and their work. The artists are asked to include a statement about themselves, provide visuals as well as pinpoint where their gallery is on a virtual map so the site becomes a virtual studio visit.
