Art International Radio

AIR’s mission is to be a leading source for music, audio art, cultural dialogue and new media innovation, and a singular art space dedicated to facilitating and promoting the work of emerging and established artists. "

Designed from scratch, coded with Drupal and many PHP scripts, with custom modules, custom css, etc. AIR's pre-existing Joomla site needed a new update that both redesigned the site visually and also enabled a better, automated workflow. Custom scripts were written to import Joomla content into Drupal, and to redirect Joomla queries to the proper Drupal page. The site will autodetect iOS devices and forward them to an M3U playlist, so the entire site's content is playable (and, on iOS4, playable in the background) on iPhones and iPads. A bit of neat CSS trickery means that the archive switches between two different kinds of views without really any Javascript involved.

The design was primarily focused on showcasing the expanse of the archive so that the user would be aware of the breadth and quantity of the content in AIR's website. At the same time, enough information is offered to the user so that each user can browse the site and wander from show to show, discovering new radio to listen to.
